Job Title: Kitchen Supervisor/Sous Chef
FLSA Status: Non Exempt-Seasonal
Reports to: Head Chef & Summer Camp & Retreats Director

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the head cef you will be responsible to assist in the performance of all kitchen duties and responsibilities. Is responsible for the serving and all dining room procedures. To assist in keeping the kitchen facilities clean and up to proper health and safety codes. Responsible for the supervision of all rotating junior counselors and LIT's and CIT's while they are performing duties in the kitchen.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Performs all kitchen duties as directed by the head cook.
2. Works a daily shift in the kitchen as an assistant cook, supervises the cooking of Sunday evening & Saturday breakfast.
3. Organizes and supervises the table setting, food serving, clearing of tables, and sweeping and mopping procedures for all meals.
4. Maintains accurate daily checks of freezers and refrigerators for proper temperatures and assures proper storage and cleanliness of areas.
5. Assists in the enforcement of safety practices and assures proper storage, cooking, and serving of food at safe temperatures.
6. Supervises all dishwashers, while performing duties in the kitchen, assures that the record of rinse and wash temperatures on the dishwasher are accurately kept.
7. After each meal inspects the kitchen area and assures that all surfaces are cleaned and sanitized and floors swept before kitchen staff leaves.
8. Responsible for the complete cleanliness of the kitchen, including cupboards, all surfaces, appliances, and floors.
9. Create a procedure for cook out clean up and supervise the Rotating Junior Counselors as they do cookouts.
10. Head a planning committee for one world service activity and one special day activity. Participate in all of the courses, activities, classes, training, and planning sessions during pre-camp.

12. Attend the weekly 1:00 PM staff meeting and share your ideas and distribute materials for any activity you are in charge of during the week.
13. Responsible for the supervision of all rotating junior counselors and LIT’s and CIT’s while they are performing duties in the kitchen.
14. Assist in other areas of camp as needed.
15. Create and maintain a harmonious, positive working relationship with fellow staff, YMCA Camp Wapsie campers and participants.

QUALIFICIATIONS

  • Must possess a general knowledge of kitchen duties and have the ability to supervise staff.
