We are reaching out to let you know of some timely updates for the Stoney Point location – the building has been sold to a local nonprofit, the Antioch Christian Church. As of this week, the sale is official but they are graciously partnering with us to allow for the Y to determine timelines of closing operations at the facility.
Most importantly, the pool has been the only area of use available to members since the pandemic began. The last day Stoney Point’s pool will be available for use (lap swimming/water exercise) will be Friday, July 16th. After the 16th, the pool will be closing operations and will no longer have aquatic staff operating the area.
We know that we have had many loyal members continuing to use Stoney Point’s pool, and we sincerely hope that you will continue your membership with us by joining us at the neighboring Helen G. Nassif location. In addition, Doris will be moving her water exercise class that has been held at Stoney to the Helen G. Nassif YMCA before the end of July – more details to come.
We sincerely thank you for your membership and for sticking with the YMCA. We know this past year and a half has been filled with many changes and challenges, and we are working on accommodating this location to the best of our ability so that members can still enjoy their benefits at our other locations.
Dear YMCA Members,
As you know, the Stoney Point YMCA has been listed for public sale since 2020 and has been limited in usage to members to allow for operation of YMCA child care services. This was yet another extremely difficult decision following the recent economic challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. We have had to make many difficult decisions within the last year as we work to recover and reallocate resources within our association to continue to serve the needs of our community.
We would like to inform you of the recent developments regarding the sale of this location – the YMCA has received and accepted an offer on the property. The Antioch Christian Church will be purchasing the Stoney Point YMCA in order to further expand their congregation. We are happy to know that another nonprofit organization will be entering this side of Cedar Rapids and will continue to serve individuals and families.
That being said, the sale of the building does not result in an immediate change in the current availability to members and child care participants. Throughout the next several months, we will announce changes to building access as we slowly close down operations at this location.
Thank you for your support of the YMCA and for sticking with us throughout the past year and beyond. We know there have been many changes along the way, but we are grateful to have the wonderful support of our members and community.
