Marion YMCA Updates – Effective April 19, 2021

Lap Lane Swimming & Gym Age Policy

  • Individuals ages 10 and up can swim on their own for lap swimming
  • For those under the age of 16, a swim test will be conducted to determine swimming ability
  • 10 years old is the minimum age to lap swim – children younger than 10 are not permitted to lap swim with a parent
  • Children ages 10 and older can also be in the gym area without a parent/guardian.  Children under the age of 12 require parent/guardian supervision in all other areas of the facility.

Rec Pool Capacity Increase

  • Maximum of 25 people will be able to utilize this area at once
  • Members can reserve their time slot for the rec pool by calling the Marion YMCA’s front desk at (319) 377-7361 (online registration will not be available going forward for open swim – timeframes will still be listed on our website and on the mobile app)
  • Members must reserve a spot for each person who is coming to swim
  • Reservations can be made one day before use during open business hours

Aquatic Updates

Hot Tubs & Lap Lane Swimming

  • Lap lanes at the Marion YMCA are now open to two people per lane for each time slot in order to accommodate more lap swimmers.  Each lap swimmer must start at the opposite ends of the lap lanes while swimming.
  • Rec pool/splash pad area at the Marion YMCA is now open to three families per time slot
  • Hot tubs are now open at the Helen G. Nassif & Marion YMCAs (see below for hot tub usage guidelines)
  • One 15 minute time block is available per lap swim reservation hour
  • Time blocks run from 15 minutes past the hour to 30 minutes past the hour for each lap swim hour that pools are open
  • As with lap swimmers, hot tub patrons will be admitted to the pool area at 10 minutes past the hour
  • Those swimming laps will go to their assigned lanes, those using the hot tub will go to the hot tub and pick one of the four taped off areas around the tub for use during their reservation time.
  • Belongings can be placed in a tote at the designated area. Each of the four areas will have its own tote for patron use (Helen G. Nassif YMCA)
  • Hot tub can then be used, providing the lifeguard is in position as ready to monitor your safety
  • Lifeguard will let hot tub patrons know when their time is up. Please exit the hot tub promptly and either go to the locker room or prepare to exit pool area
  • After all hot tub patrons have left the pool area, lap swimmers – up to four at a time – can then use the hot tub up until the top of the hour. At the top of the hour all lap swimmers/hot tub users will exit the pools and the pool area
  • Members cannot stay later than their swim time – please exit the hot tub at the top of the hour; members can make a reservation for the following swim time
  • Members are able to reserve a spot to use the spa while swim lessons are in session (Marion YMCA)

Children 12 years old and younger are required to have a parent/guardian accompany them in our facilities.

UPDATED 2/7/2021

Our primary concern at the YMCA is safety and continuing to do our best in making sure we are providing a safe environment inside our facilities for you and your family. Despite the recent state proclamation, we will continue with current safety measures that have been in place in order to keep the health and safety of our members and staff of the utmost priority.

  • Mask wearing is required in all common areas and in close proximity to others (in accordance with remaining city proclamations) – it is okay to not wear a mask while partaking in physical activity on a machine, lifting weights, swimming, running, etc.
  • Please continue to adhere to social distancing guidelines when partaking in exercise, spectating sports, etc.
  • Fitness classes and pool use continue to be capped in capacity to allow for social distancing.

“We have always appreciated the Y.  Just… everything about it.  The customer service, and just everything everyone there does to make working out as enjoyable as possible.  We are in… unique times, no doubt.  But we are all in this together, and get to get through it together.  I am just so happy to hear that by people continuing to pay their membership fees that it allowed you to pay your employees so they could keep working.”

– YMCA Member

Thank you for supporting the YMCA during this pandemic. We have always adapted to the needs of our community and need your continued support to stay strong so we are able to continue serving in new ways. #BetterTogether
