Meet the Camp Wapsie Staff
Executive Camp Director - Paul Denowski
Paul joined the Wapsie staff in 2003 coming from YMCA Camp Edwards. Having studied natural resources, camp management and environmental education at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, Paul enjoys sharing his passion for the outdoors with the kids at camp through nature programming, adventure trips and outdoor cooking whenever he gets the chance. “Wapsie is a great camp where I enjoy helping and watching campers learn and grow.”
Summer Camp & Retreats Director - Hanna O'Toole
Hanna worked seven summers at Wapsie (2010-16) before spending time at Camp Courageous and Girl Scouts Camp Liberty where she earned her camp nickname “Fidget”. She has recently been in Michigan working as the Camp Director at the YMCA of Barry County. Hanna has an undergraduate degree in Elementary Special Education from Mount Mercy University and is currently getting her master’s at UNI in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Development. She is excited to be back home on the backwaters and have the opportunity to serve the place and people who have done so much for her since childhood!
Caretaker - Brian Harkness
Brian Harkness is the caretaker who started May 24th 2021. He spent 36 working years in retail and wholesale in the grocery/food industry. 15 years in different grocery stores with Nash Finish and Hy Vee, and 20 years as a wholesale vendor working for such companies as Frito-Lay, Wonder Bread, Pan O Gold, and finally Groupo Bimbo as an independent contractor selling Brownberry bread, Thomas muffins and bagels, and Entenmanns donuts and snacks up until October of 2020. At that time some medical setbacks led him to start a different path in life which has worked out really well here at Camp Wapsie. Brian has one child who went to summer camp here for 6 years.
Office Manager - Angela Jackson
Angela first joined the Wapsie staff six years ago as the Camp Register, and has now returned for a full time role! Angela is from Coggon, IA and has three children that attend Camp Wapsie. She has been married for 21 years. She loves being at camp and helping families learn about Camp Wapsie and all the experiences it has to offer.
