The Lead Lifeguard will consistently prove to be a leader in the pool area. The Lead Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all patrons in the pool area, both in the water and on the pool deck, and needs to be prepared to act immediately and appropriately to all situations.

- Assists with scheduling and orientating of lifeguard staff to HGN processes
- Assists with record keeping of staff certifications
- Ensures the safety of all patrons by patrolling and observing the pool area
- Knowledgeable of all pool and whirlpool rules as well as current YMCA policies and has the ability to enforce these rules and policies
- Takes the initiative to complete tasks (cleaning, vacuuming, etc.)
- Perform and record accurate pool chemical readings
- Communicates to the Aquatics Director or the Executive Director when supplies are needing to be ordered and when chemical readings are not — 1.0-4.6 (chlorine) and 7.2-7.8 (pH) in the pool, and 1.0-8.0 (chlorine) and 7.2-8.0 (pH) in the whirlpool
- Assists in arranging aquatic in-service training and staff meetings
- Advises the Aquatics Director of all problems and concerns of patrons to ensure the quality of our program
- Completes incident reports promptly with accurate information and notifies the Aquatics Director or Executive Director
- Implements the Emergency Action Plan for any incidents that occur in the pool area including environmental emergencies, mechanical emergencies, and minor or major incidents
- Establishes a positive relationship with fellow staff members and YMCA patrons that are centered on the four core values of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility
